First Week Home

Will seems to be adjusting well. He sleeps a lot during the day. We seem to have lost the 'all night sleeper' that first night in the hospital. Will is a cuddler and likes to be held while he's sleeping. That goes against everything that I believe in, but I have no clue what else to do to keep him from waking up every hour in the night. He's eating well so I don't think we'll have any problems with his weight gain when he goes to the doctor next week.

Joseph on the other hand, seems to be struggling a bit (even though the picture definitely doesn't show it). He's curious about Will, he'll peek over at him and look but he doesn't really want him near. He pushes him away when we try to get him to hold him and won't go near the person that has him. This is to be expected though. Joseph has been the object of our attention for the last 18 months so I suppose it will take a little bit for him to get used to sharing our attention with someone else. We're going to try to plan a trip to Sesame Place around the 4th of July before I have to go back to work.

As for me, I had a rough first full day home. I gave my consent for the Tdap (Tetanus, Diptheria, and Pertussis) vaccine thinking it was the DTaP for Will. I was surprised with a nice little poke in my arm right before we were discharged on Wednesday. Thursday I broke out in a fever, had chills, muscle aches, and one big hive over the injection site that measured about 3 cm. Friday afternoon it had gotten as big as 5 cm. It's gone down, and I'm starting to feel a little better but I now know better than to give my consent on that one again. Joe goes back to work on Monday so it's going to just be me and the kids after that. Hopefully it doesn't take us too long to develop our own routine.
